INTERVIEW: CPUC TO DECIDE ON CONTENTIOUS NEM 3.0 LATER THIS YEAR

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) is in proceedings to update its Net Energy Metering (NEM) plan, specifically looking at equity issues. A decision is expected to be made later this year.

An NEM is what gives customers, who generate their own energy, financial credit on electric bills when surplus energy is fed back to the utility, according to the CPUC website. Since proceedings began in 2019 to update the NEM, it has been contentious over fears that changes may have a negative impact on residential and commercial solar.
