Fast-Growing Sage Energy Consulting Expands to Larger Space, Makes Key Hires

SAN RAFAEL, Calif., February 6, 2020 – Sage Energy Consulting, a national independent energy planning and project management firm, will relocate to significantly expanded headquarters in San Rafael, Calif., on March 1, 2020, thanks to a growing team, new service offerings and market growth. This move has been driven, in part, by the addition of renewable energy industry veteran, Russell “Rusty” Schmit, P.E., C.E.M., as Sage’s first COO and David Seiler as director of business development.

The firm’s move into the 3,250-square-foot space at 101 Lucas Valley Road once occupied by The Grateful Dead, represents growth of 80 percent over Sage’s current office space. It was made in anticipation of continued swift growth. In fact, Sage is currently recruiting for two open positions.

“Our team of consultants and industry experts has outgrown our original space, and I am excited to welcome our clients and partners to our new headquarters,” said Sage Principal and CEO Tom Williard. “I am proud of Sage’s reputation for exceptional service and energy market expertise that has driven our growth. The addition of top tier talent is critical to maintaining our momentum.”

“The breadth and depth of Rusty and David’s experience, and their history of working in aligned industries and in different markets around the world will greatly benefit our clients,” added Williard. “Rusty’s success in developing companies to their full potential and David’s business development and program management experience in renewable energy will strongly support our strategic growth.”

With more than 30 years of experience, Schmit joined Sage after most recently serving as CEO at a solar power manufacturing company. He began his career leading solar photovoltaic technology programs at global semiconductor firms Motorola and Texas Instruments. He then pursued entrepreneurial roles around the globe, starting and growing manufacturing companies. His experience includes technology evaluation, business development, and merger and acquisition services for global utility companies, private equity firms and energy clients.

“As COO, my focus is on expanding Sage’s service offerings and geographical reach,” said Schmit. “We’re seeing more and more interest in the electrification of vehicles and larger renewable energy microgrid projects, just to name a couple of growth areas, and we are prepared to bring Sage’s sophisticated financial analysis, deep knowledge of funding mechanisms, technical expertise and management services to the table to meet these new needs.”

Seiler is an engineer with more than 15 years’ experience in the solar industry as a project developer, design consultant and strategic product salesperson. He joins from Sunterra Solar, where he specialized as a program manager and was tasked with developing new projects and managing existing projects in design, bidding, RFQ response, planning, procurement, layout, construction, interconnection and closeout. Seiler built his early career at other notable companies like SolarEdge, ABB/Power-One and National Semiconductor/SolarMagic. At Sage, Seiler is splitting his time between business development and sales, and in-house project development.
